How much do hair extensions typically cost?

Location:

If you go to some "posh" upscale celebrity salon to get your hair done some famous celebrity stylist :-D you're gonna pay alot more than if you go to a less well known salon/stylist. Also the if you live in a large city like NY or LA be prepared to take out a loan for a couple grand (i'm not kidding)

Method:

some methods are more expensive than others. If you're looking to get length for a special event then go with the wefted sew in extensions. You'll only wear them for a couple days. Now if you're trying to grow out your hair (bad hair cut thin hair from chemicals) you might want to go with single strand extensions. Because you'll be wearing them for a while you want versatility ( you can wear them up down something you CANNOT do with the wefts) Single strands are nice and versatile but why shell out $1,000+ for something you only wear for a couple days?! It doesnt make sense so make sure you pick a method that is right for what you want whether long term and short term

Hair:

To get a good result you're going to have to shell out a couple hundred for good quality european hair. European hair is used b/c of their great diets that are high in protein (very good for hair since hair is made out of a keratin, a specific type of protein). If you get really good hair you can re use it. I wouldn't get fusion extensions because you CANNOT reuse the hair and I just wouldnt want glue in my hair. There are so many other good versatile methods out there that you dont' have to use glue or "keratin" bonds which are glue (just a fancy term to keep customer at ease).

Your goal:

Are you just trying to add fullness/high lights to your hair (usually cheapest) or are you trying to go from very short to super long (very expensive). Doing a partial is far less expensive and tedious than full head. The full head of extensions you will have to use more hair and if you hair is thick AND short you'll shell out even more b/c you have to have to purchase enough hair to blend into your own and it takes a little longer

All in all those are SOME of the factors that will affect the price.

Usually anywhere from $200 to maybe $5,000+ (especially if you are in a large city)

I don't know how hair savvy you are but if you're the adventurous type you can try to do it yourself. Its pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

http://www.hairboutique.com go to hair talk (at the top of the page) and then scroll down to the hair extensions board where you can talk to a board full of hair extension artists wiht lots of knowledge and even get to meet some in your area.

The 1st website I listed shows you different methods to to "DEMOS" on the left side. There is also a picture gallery listed. The 2nd website shows wefted extensions something you could do with a little practice. The 3rd website I listed is one that shows many different methods of hair extensions and gives you ball park figures on what to expect in terms of price. But again its not going to be the same every where.

BEWARE they get really annoying after awhile, and get the sew in ones, not the GLUED ONES!!, they rip out Ur own hair.

Just Depends On Where You Different Places Different Prices

anywhere from 350-2500 depending on what type you want and what area of the country you are in, in memphis tn, i charge 1000-1200 for a head of extensions, which is a bit on the less expensive side, it doesn't matter what color or how long the hair is for the type i use..I use a strand by strand method with high quality 100% human hair. also i use a keratin protein bond, no glue. This is the best method of hair extensions, they last about 3-4 months with very little maintenance. These don't do any damage to your own hair and they are pretty comfortable and not that bothersome at all.

You can get some tracks of hair, for about 350-400,they are glued at the scalp or the hair is braided and then the tracks are sewn in, they don't look that natural or last that long and the sewn in ones tend to break your natural hair.

usually the quality of the hair is not so good, even if you do get 100% human hair it is usually not the best quality, and the maintenance on these is required about every 2 weeks or even more often for the glued in tracks.

Make sure you know what you are getting into when you get your extensions. You don't have to overpay, but as far as the technique goes, you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to extensions, I would recommend the strand by strand method for the best value even though they are a bit more pricey on the front end.
