Is it rude to ask someone if they are wearing hair extensions/wig?

My hair has been falling out due to a medication that I take. I blend in hair extensions to my real hair sometimes.......or now that it has gotten really bad I wear wigs. One day I wore a long blonde wig to a meeting I go to. One person commented "Your hair looks nice!" I said thank you. That was a nice comment and they did not comment if it was fake or not. However, another guy said "Are those extensions? Because I can tell." It was actually a wig. Isn't that rude for a guy to ask if a woman is wearing hair extensions? I hate how attention is always brought to my hair......Then everyone around him looked at my hair closely........It sucks that I have no hair......And it just makes it worse when these people always comment "You changed your hair!" (I wear different wigs so some days I will have brown and some days blonde) Can't they respect that my hair has fallen out and I have to wear wigs? Isn't it rude to ask if your hair is fake? Isn't it like asking a womanifherweddingringisfake?

You've chosen to keep your medical condition to yourself and maintain professional dignity and that's why your work associates are a little confused by your changing hairstyles. Men are trained to notice changes to women's hair. If they don't notice they are in trouble. And if they do notice, they're not particularly good at mentioning it the right way.

It's nothing like asking if your wedding ring is fake. Your hair is just a part of your outward appearance; your soul and strength and personality is what matters.

You are absolutely right. It is rude. When asked, reply..."Why would you ask me that?" It puts the ball back in their court without you being rude.

I think its rude especially if other people are around. He could at least ask quietly when you're alone if he wanted to know that bad.
